Mannie Fresh Gives Bahamian Hit “Coming Home” a Fresh Remix — and the Crowd Goes Wild!
Legendary New Orleans DJ and producer Mannie Fresh brought a taste of Cash Money history to Nassau this week — but one of the biggest reactions of the night came when he showed love to a rising Bahamian hit.
During the first night of his two-show Bahamas debut at the Jon Batiste Jazz Club at Baha Mar, Mannie Fresh surprised the audience by incorporating Ghetto Pikney’s popular song “Coming Home” into his set.
The live remix immediately sent the room into an uproar.
Videos from the performance show the audience singing along as the familiar words, “I coming home,” rang through the Jazz Club with Mannie Fresh behind the turntables. It was a major moment for Ghetto Pikney, whose song became one of the standout anthems of the Bahamas’ 2026 Independence season.
“Coming Home” had already gained momentum throughout the country, but hearing it remixed and played by one of hip-hop’s most recognizable producers gave the record an entirely different level of exposure.
Mannie Fresh is known for producing some of the biggest songs associated with Cash Money Records, including classics by Juvenile, Lil Wayne and the Big Tymers. His decision to close out the night by spotlighting a Bahamian artist made the moment feel even more special.
The producer performed at the Jazz Club on August 19 and 20, marking not only his debut at the Baha Mar venue but reportedly his first performance in The Bahamas. Our News confirmed the two-night appearance, while Poinciana Magazine captured the crowd’s reaction to the Ghetto Pikney moment.
And just to be clear, this appears to have been a special live remix during Mannie Fresh’s DJ set, not yet an officially released studio remix. But judging from the crowd’s response, an official version may be worth considering.
For Ghetto Pikney, this was more than another club spin. It was a respected international producer recognizing a Bahamian record that had already connected deeply with people at home.
Sometimes all it takes is the right song, the right crowd, and one legendary DJ to make a local moment feel much bigger.
For anyone unfamiliar with Mannie Fresh, he helped create the soundtrack of the late 1990s and early 2000s Cash Money era. Although he was often working behind the scenes as a producer, his sound powered major hits for Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and other Cash Money artists. He was also one-half of the Big Tymers alongside Birdman, giving us songs like “Still Fly” and “Get Your Roll On.” For those of us who came up during that era, Mannie Fresh was not simply the DJ playing the records—he was one of the creative forces responsible for making many of those records unforgettable.
