The Truth About Lisa Turtle’s Life Today

For an entire generation, Lark Voorhies will always be Lisa Turtle—the fashionable, quick-witted, and effortlessly confident member of the Bayside High crew on Saved by the Bell.

Lark began playing Lisa on Good Morning, Miss Bliss before continuing with the character throughout Saved by the Bell from 1989 to 1993. Her personality, comic timing, and unforgettable wardrobe helped make Lisa one of the show’s most memorable characters. 

However, after Lark gradually stepped away from the spotlight, public interest in her life took an uncomfortable turn. Instead of celebrating her work, people began dissecting her appearance and circulating rumors about her health.

The Facelift and Lupus Rumors

There has never been credible confirmation that Lark underwent a “facelift gone wrong.” That was speculation based largely on photographs and television appearances—and speculation about someone’s face should never be presented as fact.

The lupus story was also false.

In 2015, a lengthy message published through an account pretending to be Lark claimed that she had been living with lupus since 2007. Her representative later confirmed that the social-media account was fake and that Lark had never been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease. 

About Her Health

What Lark has publicly discussed is her mental-health journey.

Her mother, Tricia Holloway, previously said Lark had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Lark was later diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 2015 and publicly spoke about the diagnosis in 2020. 

During that period, Lark also addressed how hurt she felt after initially being excluded from the Saved by the Bell revival. Fortunately, she was eventually invited back and reprised her role as Lisa Turtle in the Peacock series in both 2020 and 2021. 

Her return was a meaningful moment for longtime fans who had hoped to see Lisa reunited with the Bayside family.

Lark Voorhies Is Not Retired

In June 2026, Lark gave a hopeful update about where she is today.

Now 52, she told People that she is interested in returning to acting while exploring new creative opportunities. She also said she is focused on writing and using her experiences to encourage people facing their own challenges.

Lark acknowledged that fear and misunderstanding surrounding her diagnosis may have affected how the entertainment industry viewed her. Still, she made it clear that she remains confident in her talent, work ethic, and ability to deliver a convincing performance. 

She also appeared in the second season of the documentary series Hollywood Demons, which examined the lives of several former child and teenage stars after fame. The season is available through HBO Max. 

Although Lisa remains her signature role, Lark’s résumé extends far beyond Bayside High.

She appeared on Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters and In the House. Her movie credits include How High, How to Be a Player and Civil Brand. She was also featured in music videos by Boyz II Men, Dru Hill, Kenny Lattimore and Montell Jordan.

Lark later became an author, publishing the books Reciprocity, Trek of the Cheshire and A True Light. Her recent interviews indicate that writing and sharing her personal story remain important parts of her next chapter. 

Her Relationships and Marriages

Lark was engaged to comedian and actor Martin Lawrence in 1993, although the relationship ended before they married.

She married actor and producer Miguel Coleman in 1996. The couple later separated and divorced in 2004. In April 2015, she married music engineer Jimmy Green in Las Vegas, but filed for divorce approximately six months later. The divorce was finalized in 2016. 

Older reports also claimed that Lark married a man named Andy Price—or Andy Prince—in 2007 and had a child. Because that information has been inconsistently reported and is absent from more recent reliable profiles, it should not be treated as confirmed.

Perhaps the question should no longer be,

“What happened to Lark Voorhies?” A better question may be: What happened to the compassion we should have shown her?

Lark became famous while she was still young and later faced deeply personal challenges under the judgment of millions of strangers. Photographs, rumors, and awkward interview clips never told her complete story.

Today, she is speaking for herself. She is looking toward acting, writing, and new creative opportunities while refusing to allow a diagnosis—or Hollywood’s reaction to it—to define the rest of her life.

Lisa Turtle will always hold a special place in television history, but Lark Voorhies deserves the opportunity to show the world who she is now.
